FAQ
Does Panlabs Biologics provide CDMO services for fermentation and process scale-up?

Panlabs offers stepwise scale-up development and process optimization services from 1 L, 2 L, 5 L, 30 L, 50 L up to 500 L fermenters, including strain screening and evaluation, fermentation parameter development, downstream purification process establishment and scale-up, and inter-facility technology transfer. The service supports clients from lab-scale to pilot and production-scale development.

What are the features of the strain improvement service?

Using random mutagenesis, rational screening, precision cloning, and an automated high-throughput screening platform, Panlabs rapidly identifies high-yield strains suitable for the production of antibiotics, enzymes, primary and secondary metabolites, and recombinant proteins.

What products does Panlabs Biologics currently offer?

Current product lines include:

  • Extracellular vesicles (Lactosome™): Lactobacillus-derived vesicles with whitening, repairing, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory effects.
  • PDRN and L-PDRN: Promote cell repair and regeneration, applied in medical aesthetics and skincare.
  • Recombinant proteins and peptides: IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-15, EGF, VEGF165, FGF2, hGH, IGF-1, Fibronectin, Collagen, and others.
  • Enzymes: Nitrilase, Esterase, Catalase, Lipase, Amylase, SUMO protease, TEV protease, etc.
  • Antibiotic strains and technology transfer: Doxorubicin, Midostaurin, Milbemycin, Tacrolimus, Cephalosporin C, Erythromycin, etc.
  • ADC payload–linker series: DMx, MMAE, DM1, Calicheamicin, Belotecan, Nemorubicin, and various linker chemistries.
What microbial strain resources does Panlabs have? What are the commonly used strains?

The strain library contains over 20,000 microorganisms, including actinomycetes, fungi, bacilli, yeasts, and natural product-producing strains. Commonly used industrial strains include Aspergillus, Streptomyces, Bacillus, Saccharomyces, Pichia, and E. coli.

Can Panlabs assist in the development and scale-up of antibiotics and intermediates?

Panlabs possesses fermentation and semi-synthetic capabilities for antibiotics and intermediates. The company provides end-to-end customized services for products such as Doxorubicin, Milbemycin, Tacrolimus, Cephalosporin C, and Staurosporine/Midostaurin, covering strain improvement, culture condition optimization, and process scale-up.

Does Panlabs offer green bioprocess or enzyme application development?

Yes. Panlabs provides multiple green biocatalysis solutions, including:

  • Nitrilase (Bio-IDA): For Iminodiacetic acid (IDA) production.
  • Catalase: For hydrogen peroxide degradation and carbon-reduction processes.

Custom enzyme, protein, or other green bioprocess development can also be provided upon request.

Can Panlabs assist in developing natural products and secondary metabolites?

Panlabs has strong capabilities in microbial natural product and secondary metabolite development, including antibiotics, anticancer agents, antiparasitic compounds, immunosuppressants, plant growth hormones, pigments, vitamins, amino acids, and other functional ingredients. Development projects include Penicillin, Cephalosporin C, Doxorubicin, Staurosporine (Midostaurin precursor), and Milbemycin. Custom screening and new metabolite development programs are also available.

What is the quality grade of Panlabs’ products? Is GMP production available?

Panlabs currently provides research-use-only (RUO) materials, with optional documentation systems and process scale-up capabilities. GMP-grade production can be coordinated through partner manufacturing facilities upon request.

Can Panlabs assist in developing new recombinant proteins?

Yes. Panlabs designs expression vectors, performs expression testing, and establishes purification workflows tailored to the target protein.

What is the typical project timeline?

The duration depends on project type:

  • Strain improvement: 9–24 months
  • Fermentation process development: 2–4 months
  • Recombinant protein expression and purification: 3–6 months
  • Natural product/metabolite development: 3–6 months

Timelines can be adjusted based on client needs.
